FAQ

Why should I hire a handyman instead of doing it myself?

Hiring a handyman saves time and money. Not only does this save you the hassle of hiring someone else, but it also saves you the headache of getting everything right the first time. Hire a handyman to help you with your job.

How often should I employ a handyman to help me?

It all depends upon the nature of your job. If you are looking for a quick fix, like installing a lightbulb, you may only need one handyman per week. If there are many remodeling tasks involved, however, you might need several handymen.

When is it the best time for a handyman to be hired?

There is no "right" time to hire handymen. You simply need to get started as soon as possible. To save money, you could wait until after the holidays. You can also reach out to various handymen via the phone.

How long does it take to complete a typical DIY job?

The average DIY project takes two to four hours. The length of the project will vary based on its complexity and difficulty.

What are the top handyman repairs you can do?

Handymen can repair damaged roofs or windows, doors and gutters. Handymen can help with home improvement and building projects that are not feasible for DIY homeowners.

Does a handyman make suggestions about how to improve my home?

Absolutely! A handyman is skilled in all aspects of home maintenance and repair. He or she knows what needs to be fixed and what doesn't. Do not hesitate to seek advice whenever you are in need.

Should I pay a handyman by the hour or per-project basis?

It all comes down to personal preference. Some prefer to pay per hour so they can see the actual cost of their handyman. Some prefer to pay for each project, even though they may be doing multiple jobs at once. Either way is fine.

How To

How to replace a broken window

One of the most popular home improvement projects is to replace broken windows. This task involves repairing any damage to your glass. This repair will take only 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article provides tips for how to replace broken windows.

First step: Take the glass out of its frame

To remove the old windowpane, you will first need to take out the screws that held it in place. Next, undo the lock in the middle of the bottom section. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). The last step is to gently loosen all remaining screws with a tool. Clean the panes thoroughly after they are taken out.

Next step: Clean the glass

Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe away any dirt from the surface of the glass. A spray bottle filled with water, rubbing alcohol and water can be used to clean debris stuck beneath the glass.

Third Step: Reinstall new glass

Then, attach the window panes back into the frames. Use a screwdriver to push the outermost edge of your pane down. Gently push back the pane into place in the opening. Next, insert the next pane by pressing it against the first pane. Continue inserting the windows until they are all assembled. You can seal the spaces where the panes meet using a silicone caulk pistol.

Fourth step: Repair the damaged area

When installing the new glass, inspect the area around the hole to determine whether any additional repairs are needed. If the break occurred near the corner of the window, install two small pieces of wood along each side of the hole. These wooden blocks will add strength to the window while also acting as spacers to keep the glass in place during the expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing material.

The fifth step is to seal the area.

After the glass has been replaced, apply a bead of silicone caulking to the perimeter edges of the window frame. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. Silicone caulking can be purchased at hardware stores and online. Make sure you choose a color that is consistent with the wall's existing paint.

Allow the caulking to cure overnight. Once the caulking is fully set, don't disturb it. If you don't wait enough, the caulking could crack when you take it off.
